Where are courses held?
We have training facilities in Cairns (22 Palmer Street, Portsmith QLD 4870) and Townsville (54 Charles Street, Aitkenvale QLD 4814). We also deliver across Queensland, including the Tablelands, Weipa, Cloncurry, Cooktown, Mackay, Rockhampton and Mount Isa. Most courses can be delivered onsite at your premises.
How do I find course dates and book?
Dates, locations and prices are on the Training Calendar. Choose Book Now next to the date you want, then pay at checkout by card, Link or Klarna. For group bookings call 07 4035 5787.
You can also contact Cairns on 07 4035 5787 (reception@trainingserv.com.au) or Townsville on 07 4779 5808 (tsv.reception@trainingserv.com.au).
What time should I arrive, and what if I am late?
Courses start at 8.00am. Arrive 15 minutes early to present photo identification, make sure payment is finalised, and complete an enrolment form. If you arrive later than 8.10am you may be refused entry and will need to rebook.
What do I need for the White Card course?
You need 3 forms of ID (one must be photo ID), your USI number, and basic literacy and numeracy skills. Fees must be paid in full before the course starts. Special ID arrangements may be available for secondary school students, temporary overseas workers, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, so contact us for more information. All resources are issued on the day. The course starts at 8.00am and takes approximately 6 hours.
What do I need for the traffic control courses?
Control Traffic with a Stop-Slow Bat: an Open or Provisional drivers licence held within the last 5 years, a White Card (the course page also lists a Blue Card, so call us if you hold a Blue Card instead), photo ID, your USI number, basic literacy and numeracy skills, and fees paid in full before the course. Your application to Transport and Main Roads is subject to a criminal history and other suitability checks, and some convictions and traffic offences may exclude you from accreditation.
Implement Traffic Management Plans: a White Card, photo ID, your USI number, and basic literacy and numeracy skills.
Refresher courses have extra requirements, including current industry cards, Statements of Attainment and a completed Currency of Industry Practice (COIP) with supporting evidence. See each refresher course page.
Do I need a USI?
Yes. A USI is a prerequisite on every course page. Unless you are exempt, we can only issue a Statement of Attainment after you have given us a verified USI or we have applied for one on your behalf. You can create your own, and we can also create one for you.
What should I wear and bring?
For most courses wear neat, casual clothing with closed-in shoes. For the Confined Spaces courses wear long sleeves, long pants, and steel-capped boots or rubber-soled shoes. Bring your photo ID (3 forms of ID, one with a photo, for the White Card) and the documents listed under the course prerequisites. The Stop-Slow Bat practical placement requires PPE.
When do I pay, and how much do courses cost?
Prices are on the Training Calendar and each course page. You pay at checkout by card, Link or Klarna, and fees must be paid before the course starts.
Under our Fee Policy we will not collect more than $1,500 before a course starts. That deposit includes a $100 non-refundable administration fee. A payment plan is available for course fees over $1,500.
Can I get a refund?
If you withdraw at least 48 hours before the course starts, your deposit is refunded except for the $100 administration fee. Less than 48 hours before, a refund applies only if you withdraw because of illness or extreme hardship, as determined by Training Services QLD. No refunds are issued once the course has started. The full rules are in the Fee Policy.
What if a course is cancelled, or I cannot attend?
Courses with low enrolments may be cancelled. We will make every effort to contact you with alternative arrangements, so please make sure your contact details are correct. Requests to transfer your enrolment because of changed personal circumstances will be considered. If we cannot provide prepaid services, we will place you in an equivalent course at a suitable location at no extra cost, or refund all prepaid fees for services we cannot provide.
Can I get funding for my course?
Construction Skills Queensland (CSQ) funding may be available to eligible participants. See the Funded Courses page for the criteria, then contact us to check your eligibility and the applicable fees.
What do I receive when I finish?
Students assessed as competent are issued a Statement of Attainment for the units completed, and the cost of the certificate is included in the course fee. White Card participants receive their White Card. Implement Traffic Management Plans participants receive a wallet-sized TMI card valid for 3 years. Stop-Slow Bat graduates can then apply at a Transport and Main Roads Customer Service Centre for Traffic Controller accreditation, valid for three years, and the accreditation fee is paid directly to TMR. Reissuing a certificate or Statement of Attainment costs $80.
What if I am assessed as Not Yet Competent?
You will be offered a chance to be reassessed, with further guidance from your trainer first. In most cases there is no reassessment fee, and if one applies it will be on the course flyer. If you are competent in some but not all units, you will receive a Statement of Attainment and have six months to be reassessed on the others.
Do you offer group, onsite or one-on-one training, and recognition of prior learning?
Yes. Talk to us about group training, one-on-one training, onsite and off-site delivery, and recognition of prior learning (RPL). All students can apply for RPL and should say so as soon as possible after induction. Call 07 4035 5787.
How do I make a complaint or appeal a result?
Talk to your trainer or senior management first. To make a formal complaint, complete a Complaints and Appeals Form (in the Student Handbook, or from us) and give it to the RTO Manager. It costs nothing to lodge a complaint. To appeal an assessment, speak to your trainer and assessor first, then lodge the form within 7 days. If you are not satisfied with our internal process, you can contact the National Training Complaints Hotline on 13 38 73.
